How to dress for comfort in virtually any weather – including Michigan winters
    Map reading
    Compass use
    Efficient movement over terrain
Navigation in low or no visibility conditions
    Improvisation of basic navigation tools
    Navigation without tools

Orienteering class is a great way to stay active and outdoors during the winter months and to build your self-confidence by learning new skills.

Woodsmanship (a.k.a. “I can steal fire from the sun!!!)**

Armed with will, knowledge and minimal equipment, you can survive outdoors in relative comfort in any season for as long as you have to. In Woodsmanship, you'll learn survival skills that won't just serve you in the wilderness – you'll learn how to stay warm and dry (or cool and dry) wherever Fate lands you.

During Woods you'll learn how to “steal fire” for warmth and cooking. You'll build a basic kit to allow you to stay warm, collect safe drinking water, and build shelter – and many parts of that kit will serve you whether you are camping or your car dies somewhere outside of cell phone range. By the time you've finished Woods you'll be able to find food, give yourself or others First Aid, tie basic knots (or even making your own rope) and be very quiet whether you're hunting rabbits or just taking their picture.

At Aegis, we offer two Woodsmanship classes: in the first, basic class, you learn how to survive with a basic kit you can keep in your car. In Primitive Woods it's just you, your knife, your expertise and your willpower.

If you want to learn these life-saving wilderness survival skills, email us today to sign up for the next session of Woodsmanship or to join our no-obligation mailing list here.

** “I can steal fire from the Sun!!!!” is an actual statement made by one of our very first Woods students, Tracy Worcester, RN, during her commencement. She had a maniacal glint in her eyes at the time.
